Artist Statement
| My work examines personal histories and the devices that people use in order to document their lives while forming connections with the past. I am interested in studying memory, legacy, and our motivations behind recording certain pieces of our lives while omitting others. I base my artwork on text and imagery from my collection of found photographs, antique scrapbooks, and diaries of strangers whose families have discarded their most private belongings. Finding these records of existence inspires my attempt to connect with these individuals through my visual work, constructing histories for them that are both real and fabricated. |
